| Aerial photography can take many forms and its uses and purposes
are many fold. The main sub-divisions are as follows:-
Oblique or "birds-eye" photography
These views are usually taken with conventional medium format or
digital cameras to provide colour photographs or digital files which
are then often used for information or marketing purposes. The views
provided can range from "close-up" views of small areas
to overall "wide-angle" aspects covering very considerable
areas. Rates per site range from £375 to £720 for an
individual location depending on its location. Sites situated in
near proximity to major airports or within the centre of major cities
(i.e. London, Manchester) frequently command the higher rates.
Vertical Survey photography
This is a very specialised field undertaken with sophisticated
digital or large-format cameras to provide an extremely accurate
image of the earths surface. This data is then utilised to provide
maps depicting all surface details together with altitude information
in the form of contours and spot-heights. Such photography is usually
commissioned by clients requiring the ultimate in accuracy for map
production and each project, because of its complexity, is quoted
accordingly.
Vertical Reconnaissance photography
Similar in many aspects to the Item above with the exception that
a medium format camera is used, normally out of a single-engined
aircraft, with the result that the images provided are normally
insufficient to provide very accurate mapping. This system is ideal
however for certain uses such as Quarry surveys, Traffic monitoring,
Route planning etc etc. and many Aggregate Operators and Utility
providers appreciate the lower costs incurred.
